• The Pasco Fine Arts Council is recognizing rising artists with Kids 'n Art 2015, an exhibit featuring student artwork submitted by Pasco County art instructors from public, charter, private and homeschool networks. A reception and awards ceremony will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the art center, 5744 Moog Road, Holiday. Prizes will be awarded to the winners. Briefly
• The Pasco County schools' early childhood programs department is conducting open application days across the county for Head Start and Early Head Start. Expectant mothers and parents/guardians of infants, toddlers and children through age 5 may apply for Head Start or Early Head Start. Eligibility is based on family need and income. Children with documented disabilities or special needs are given additional points and are encouraged to apply. Programs have limited enrollment.
Families can apply at any of the following locations during the listed times:
• 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Friday and June 25 at the district office complex, Portable 23, 20425 Gator Lane, Land O'Lakes.
• 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at RCMA, 15029 14th St., Dade City.
• 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. May 21 at the Veterans Memorial Park Recreation Center, 14333 Hicks Road, Hudson.

Newsmakers
• The Rotary Club of New Port Richey honored outstanding Marchman Technical College student Brandon Matzke with a certificate of achievement and a monetary gift at a luncheon in April. Matzke is in the school electrical program, pre-apprenticeship training for a journeyman's license.
He recently placed first in the state Skills USA electrical competition.
