The Exceptional Student Education Department provides technical assistance and support to all eligible children in the Hernando County schools.

The department administers programs for students with disabilities and for gifted students.

Additionally, the department coordinates student services throughout the state. Services available to parents include quarterly newsletters, monthly support groups, a resource library, staffing support and home visits as requested.

Training is offered at family workshops and through classes such as Active Parenting Today, Active Parenting of Teens, Active Parenting of the ADHD Child, a Nurturing Fathers program and semiannual parenting institutes.

The ESE Advisory Committee, which consists of parents, teachers and other interested individuals, meets quarterly to assess needs and offer suggestions for improving services. For information, call (352) 797-7022.
