Next week, Freedom High School's PTSA gives parents an opportunity that most don't get: the chance to go back to high school.
In a Take Your Family to School Week contest, Freedom's PTSA was one of 500 to pitch ideas for ways to facilitate communication among students and their parents.
Freedom's idea — a night when parents would participate in a shorter version of a high school day — won the contest. The PTSA was awarded nearly $1,900 to put toward programs at the school.
On Feb. 18 at 6 p.m., parents of Freedom students can take part in the PTSA's winning idea. Participants will meet in the media center, attend mini classes and get a taste of what goes on in high school. In at least one class, there will be a pop quiz and at the end of each class, the parents will receive grades.
"The idea is to open a dialogue between you and your student about high school life in 2010," said Barbara Ollis, a Freedom PTSA representative.
Parents who are interested can RSVP by e-mail to jjmld@verizon.net. Freedom High School is at 17410 Commerce Park Blvd., New Tampa.
