Here are the top grads from Wesley Chapel's Class of 2013

Mario "Michael" Giannazzo | valedictorian

Parents: Alexandra Giannazzo and Thomas Giannazzo

GPA: 3.96; weighted: 4.62

Future school: Brown University

Ideal career: Lead video game designer

Most influential/best teacher: Kyle Weber, social studies

Favorite quote:

"The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it."

Terry Pratchett

Favorite book: Watership Down, by Richard Adams

Clubs/extracurriculars: Political Science Club, National Honor Society, volunteer at a elementary school.

If you could increase spending on education, what areas do you think deserve the most attention? Teacher salaries. Teachers are the core of all education, and low wages serve to alienate those considering a career in that field.

Sage advice for the up and coming: Keep track of looming deadlines. Seriously. Death by procrastination is more common than you think.

Name something you wish you had done during your tenure in high school. I took too many Advanced Placement classes. They act as a black hole for free time.

Miroslav Sanader | salutatorian

Parents: Gordana Sanader, Dragan Sanader

GPA: 3.98; weighted 4.55

Future school: Florida State University

Ideal career: Neuropsychologist

Most influential/best teacher: Pablo Werner

Hardships overcome: Language barrier, as well as coming to a new and unknown country.

Favorite quote: "Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death." — Albert Einstein.

Favorite book: Gulliver's Travels, by Jonathan Swift.

Clubs/extracurriculars: Spanish Club, National Honor Society, employment as a stage hand at the Wesley Chapel Performing Arts Center.

If you could increase spending on education, what areas do you think deserve the most attention? Annual wages for teachers as well as spending for classrooms. Teachers are becoming scarce in terms of employment due to low wages; and to educate students with textbooks and technology that are 30 years outdated doesn't seem too logical.

Sage advice for the up and coming: No single person knows everything, so just pay attention and make sure you focus on the future.

Name something you wish you had done during your tenure in high school. Gotten involved in a lot more clubs.

Wesley Chapel High commencement will be at 8 p.m. May 31 at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa.

Zephyrhills High commencement will be at 2 p.m. June 2 at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa.
