Hernando County schools newsmakers


Progress Energy grant: The Hernando County Education Foundation has received a $10,000 grant from Progress Energy. It will fund the Hernando County STEM Engagement Project, which provides hands-on learning opportunities outside the classroom that are directly linked to coursework in science, technology, engineering or math.

Hospital donation: Oak Hill Hospital has donated $11,000 worth of computer equipment to Hernando County schools. The hospital was able to make 37 computers and 49 flat-screen monitors available from its inventory. The equipment was examined, prepared and transferred to the school system.

Hernando Christian Academy: The school's elementary Honor Society has raised money to help the school. On April 14, members and their parents spread mulch on the playground. The school thanked the group for helping make the playground more beautiful and safe.
