Hernando High School end of the year awards and scholarships

On May 28, Hernando High School had its annual awards recognition program. Seniors were recognized for scholarships and school awards they earned.

Fifty-one students earned Bright Futures Florida Medallion Scholarships worth $11,850 each; 15 received Bright Futures Florida Academic Scholarships worth $19,600 each, and two earned Bright Futures Gold Seal Vocational Scholarships worth $7,125 each.

Michael Anderson received the $2,000 Pasco-Hernando Community College Scholarship. Nicole Antonini received the Rotary Club of Brooksville Scholarship for $1,000, and the PHCC Scholarship for $2,000. Gene Babcock received a University of South Florida Scholarship for $4,000 and one for $3,200.

Michael Bainum III received the $1,000 Hernando Audubon Society's Steve Fickett Scholarship and the $2,000 PHCC Scholarship. Ava Baylor received the $700 Oratorical Contest award. Melinda Blount received the Spring Lake United Methodist Church's Carlee Mae Horan and Tommy Gaulin Memorial Scholarship for $500; the HCA/Oak Hill Hospital Volunteers Scholarship for $1,000; the African-American Club Scholarship for $1,200 and the Black Educators Caucus/Marie Antoinette Lawson Scholarship for $1,000.

Ryan Brady received the St. Leo Scholarship and a laptop, $10,500. Jade Burnett received the Johnson and Wales University Book Award. Emily Calamari received the PHCC Scholarship for $2,000. Amanda Cantrell received the McGee JROTC Scholarship for $500. Christopher Carire received the Scott Nicholson Memorial Scholarship for $500.

Samantha Carwile received the St. Leo Scholarship for $24,500; the work-study award for $3,500, and a St. Leo award for $5,000. Nicholas Champney received the Hernando County Performing Arts Center Guild Scholarship for $1,000 and a Stetson University scholarship for $68,000. Shanna Chatraw received the Hernando County Fair Association Scholarship for $1,500 and the PHCC Scholarship for $2,000.

Deborah Cummings received the Withlacoochee River Electric Educational Foundation Scholarship for $6,000; the Army ROTC Scholarship leading to a commission, combined with the Saint Leo matching scholarship for a total of $129,600; a Saint Leo award for $34,996; the McGee JROTC Scholarship for $500, and the PHCC scholarship for $2,000.

Shelby Curley received the FFA-Josh Gay Memorial Scholarship for $250. Ashley Dannemiller received the Hernando Association of School Administrators and Affiliates' Educational Scholarship for $500; the PHCC Scholarship for $2,000, and the St. Leo University Scholarship for $24,000. Bethany Davis received the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica Carlee Mae Horan Senior Scholarship for $300; the PHCC Scholarship for $2,000, and the Tulane President Scholarship for $96,000.

Kenneth Day received the Spring Lake United Methodist Church Carlee Mae Horan and Tommy Gaulin Memorial Scholarship for $500, and the Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council 6383 and the Ladies Auxiliary Christopher Columbus Memorial Scholarship for $500. Kelsey Dewey received the Rotary Club of Brooksville Scholarship for $1,000; the Disabled American Veterans Scholarship for $500, and the PHCC Scholarship for $2,000.

Juan Diaz received the Hatter Award for $20,000; a Stetson Scholarship for $21,400, and the Florida Resident Access Grant Program award for $11,300. Jacob Elkins received the FFA Alumni Scholarship for $200 and the FFA Academic Scholarship for $200. Catherine Erana received the PHCC Scholarship for $2,000; the Brain Bowl Scholarship for $8,000, and a Florida State University Scholarship for $8,000. Brittany Fender received a St. Leo Scholarship for $16,000.

Kristofer Fisher received the Withlacoochee River Electric Educational Foundation Scholarship for $6,000; the Institute of Animal Arts Scholarship for $5,000, and the Brookridge Women's Scholarship for $2,000. Jamila Gabisch received the PHCC Scholarship for $2,000.

Cari Gandy received the Rotary Club of Brooksville Scholarship for $1,000; the Air Force Association Junior ROTC Cadet of the Year honor and the Air Force Junior ROTC Scholarship for $91,500; Hernando High School's ROTC Scholarship for $500; the American Legion Scholarship for $1,000, and the PHCC Scholarship for $2,000.

Brielle Geiger received the PHCC Scholarship for $2,000. Jacob Geisler received the Jacksonville University Scholarship for $44,000. Lauren Hallal received a University of West Florida Scholarship for $6,800; the Moose Lodge Scholarship for $1,000, and the PHCC Scholarship for $2,000. Josh Harvey received a Marian University Scholarship for $112,000.

Patrick Peacock received the GI-Marines Scholarship for $50,000. Sarah Posey received a St. Leo Scholarship for $28,000, and a FRAG program award for $2,500. Jonathan Phillips received a St. Leo Scholarship for $30,000; Marine Corps Scholarship for $75,000, and a Barry University Scholarship for $60,000.

Gregory Rhodes received the VFW Post 10209's Men's Auxiliary Scholarship for $400; First Generation Scholarship for $1,000, and a Pell Grant for $2,875. Robert Rook received a Berry College Scholarship for $80,000; the Winshape Scholarship for $8,000; the Hernando Youth League Dixie Scholarship for $2,000, and a PHCC Scholarship for $2,000. Joshua Ross received a Brevard College, N.C., Scholarship for $21,000.

Heather Roush received the Hernando County Performing Arts Center Guild Scholarship for $2,000, and the Billy Mock Scholarship for $2,000. Emily Schwab received a Jacksonville University Scholarship for $44,000. Sarah Schuayb received the PHCC Scholarship for $2,000. Brittany Stahl received the PHCC Scholarship for $2,000.

Anna Steen received the Gulf Coast Waves Unit 27 Scholarship for $100. James Stephens received the Black Educators Caucus/Marie Antoinette Lawson Scholarship for $1,000, and a St. Lawrence College Scholarship for $168,000. Brianna Strother received the HCA/Oak Hill Hospital Volunteers Scholarship for $1,000 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 186's Nursing Scholarship for $350.

Jeremy Welch received a GI Bill-Army Scholarship for $68,000. Caitlin Wilder received a PHCC Scholarship for $2,000. Larissa Wilson received a PHCC Scholarship for $2,000. Joe Wright received the Zak Lukas Cross Country Scholarship for $500.

A total of $3,021,583 ($2,866,483 in scholarships/awards and $155,100 in advance placement/dual enrollment classes/texts) was awarded.

School Awards

Jade Burnett received the Outstanding Achievement in Culinary Operations award and Outstanding Band Student award. Emily Calamari received first place in the Science Fair and the Outstanding Medical Technology I Student award.

Bethany Davis received the Outstanding Achievement in dual enrollment Composition award; the Outstanding Achievement in advance placement Calculus award; the Outstanding American Government Student award, and the Spanish AP award.

Brockland Farrell received the Most Improved Automotive Technician Student award and the Outstanding Achievement award.

Brielle Geiger received the Outstanding Achievement in DE Composition award. Victoria Ketchum received the Outstanding Health Science II Student award and the Outstanding Achievement in DE Mathematics award.

Lea Martin received the Outstanding Achievement in AP Art History award and the Outstanding AP Social Studies Student award.

Nicole Antonini d Michael Bainum received the Outstanding Achievement in DE Humanities award. Aaron Hayes received the Outstanding Achievement in Language Arts award.
