Hernando School District maintenance staff win award

The Hernando County School District's maintenance department was one of two winners of the 2012 Maintenance Solutions Achievement Award for Personnel Management, a national award sponsored by Maintenance Solutions magazine.

There were four categories in the contest: renovations and retrofits, sustainability, financial management and personnel management.

The maintenance department was invited to the sponsor's convention in Las Vegas to receive the award.

Maintenance department director Sean Arnold said he included in the contest's application that "crew leaders in the custodial department went through a 40-hour training course on improving their leadership skills. All maintenance staff has gone through 16 hours of a 20-hour training course to help them improve and understand leadership, attitude and communication."

Said Arnold: "One of the district's greatest assets is its employees, and the men and women in the departments I am in charge of are some of the best."
