LAND O'LAKES — After months of wearing the interim title next to his name, Garry Walthall officially can call himself Sunlake High School principal.
"Garry has developed a good rapport with the students, staff and community there," assistant superintendent Jim Davis said. "We feel confident he can continue to move that school."
Walthall became the school's temporary leader this spring after Angie Stone left to run Fivay High, which opens in Hudson in the fall. Superintendent Heather Fiorentino said she wanted to assess leadership positions throughout the county before naming a permanent principal for Sunlake.
One of those was the principal's job at Moore-Mickens Education Center, where longtime leader Steve Cox is retiring this fall. As part of the management moves, Fiorentino also named Rick Saylor, principal of the Irvin Education Center, to take over Moore-Mickens, effective Oct. 1.
The School Board is scheduled to consider approval of the two moves on July 6.
