Hernando High: The school's auto program placed eighth at the Ford/AAA State Finals in Sanford on April 19 and 20.
Parrott Middle: To celebrate Earth Day, Best Buy offered Hernando County schools the opportunity to enter its "greenest school" competition.
Schools were invited to collect electronics for recycling. Parrott earned the $500 top prize for its efforts.
"The kids brought in lots of cellphones, printers, games, batteries, DVDs, CD players, anything electronic, and the teachers participated, too," said assistant principal Nancy Vasquez. "Every time I delivered items, they would count them, and the school that brought in the most items was the winner," she said.
