Newsmakers at Hernando County Schools


The Central High School NJROTC Roar Regiment won the first-place overall trophy at the Winter Park High School Extreme Wildcat Challenge on Sept. 26 and 27.

The cadets took home seven first-place trophies and four second-place trophies.

Three Central High School students — Sarah Bute, Thomas Koster and Justin Swanson — have been named as commended students in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program.

About 34,000 commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. These students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2O1O competition by taking the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
