PLANT CITY — Testing of students at Plant City High for tuberculosis has revealed no active cases beyond the one confirmed last week, officials said Thursday.

Around 300 students and staff were tested Tuesday for the disease after a student was found to have been infected. Of those tested, around eight were found to be carrying a dormant version of the germ.

"It was well under what we actually expected," said Steve Huard, a spokesman for the Hillsborough County Health Department. "That just means they've been exposed to tuberculosis at some point in their life and they may be carrying the germ. But it's not active and none of those would actually be infectious."

Anyone who tested positive will receive follow-up care, and the department will conduct additional testing in a year, he said. The infected student was isolated and is expected to make a full recovery.
