Saturday event offers FAFSA, tax help

Pinellas County high school seniors, their parents and current college students are invited to "College Goal Saturday," where they can get help filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as FAFSA. The application is required for any student seeking college financial aid. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the St. Petersburg College EpiCenter, 13805 58th St. N in Clearwater. Tax preparation also will be available from 10 a.m. to noon that day. Safety Harbor Middle a 'school of character'

The Florida Intentional Character Partnership has named Safety Harbor Middle School a 2015 Florida School of Character. The school, with an enrollment of just over 1,400, has been working on its character education program for five years. Founded in 1993, Character.org has awarded more than 500 schools with the State School of Character distinction. The criteria include providing students with opportunities for moral action, fostering shared leadership and engaging families and communities as partners in character-building efforts.

Health teacher honored with fellowship

Jessica Hoag, a health education teacher at Seminole High School, has been selected to receive the Marion B. Pollock Fellowship, a $3,000 award funded by the Foundation for the Advancement of Health Education under the Society for Public Health Education. The fellowship is presented to a talented and committed teacher for graduate study at the master's level. The recipient must be enrolled in a health education program and demonstrate evidence to link the health needs of children to school health education. The award will be presented to Hoag in March at a ceremony in Baltimore.

Elementary school lunches

All lunches include milk and choice of seasonal fruits.

Monday: loaded potato skins with pretzel, crispy chicken sandwich, farmer's salad, chicken Caesar wrap, baby green peas, and romaine or tossed salad.

Tuesday: mini calzones, barbecue pork on a bun, chef salad, Italian twist combo, baked beans, veggie dippers.

Wednesday: chicken tenders, spaghetti and meatballs, fruit and yogurt plate; ham and cheese croissant, Prince Charles blend, romaine side salad.

Thursday: teriyaki beef dippers with rice and roll, max snax quesadilla with salsa, turkey and cheese sandwich, creamed spinach, and veggie dippers.

Friday: pizza variety, Baja fish sticks with hush puppies; chicken dipper salad, school favorite sandwich, carrot coins, and mixed or romaine salad.
