Pinellas education news: SPC touts teaching program; Pinellas holds sign-ups for Summer Bridge, STEM camps

SPC college of education offers open house for prospective teachers

The College of Education at St. Petersburg College is hosting an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 4 for those interested in teaching. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with advisers and faculty and learn about the education program's expectations and scholarship opportunities. Summer Bridge begins June 20

Families still can register for the Pinellas County school district's Summer Bridge programs. The programs provide engaging activities and intensive instruction over the summer to ensure students are prepared when the 2016-17 school year begins. Summer Bridge particularly focuses on students who are performing below grade level or who need extra support to be successful. Most Summer Bridge programs will run Monday through Thursday from June 20 to July 14. To register, visit reservation.pcsb.org. Schools can assist families with the registration process. STEM camps deadline is Monday

The application deadline is Monday for Pinellas schools' summer STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) camps for grades 4 to 7. The camps will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on these dates: June 20-23 at Pinellas Technical College (St. Petersburg); June 27-30 at East Lake Middle School; July 11-14 at Pinellas Park Middle School; and July 18-21 at Pinellas Technical College (Clearwater). The camps cost $100 per session and each location has 40 spots. Visit pcsb.org/stem.
