Pinellas puts out the call for additional bus drivers

The Pinellas County school system is looking for bus drivers. For more information, visit the district's bus driver application assistance page at pcsb.org/page/23791. The page includes information on requirements for the job, hiring guidelines, the hiring process, application assistance and answers to frequently asked questions. PTC offers everyday skills classes

In the coming year, Pinellas Technical College will increase the number of "Quality of Life" programs offered on both its campuses, in St. Petersburg and Clearwater. Examples of courses include: plumbing for homeowners, jewelry repair, cake decorating, home maintenance, cooking and holiday meal prep. For a list of programs offered, visit pcsb.org/myptc.

Honors and awards

• Largo High's PTSA received several awards at the Florida PTA Leadership Convention recently: the Thomas Newsletter Award, the Safety Award, the Student Involvement Award, the Advocacy Award, and the All Children Are Our Children Award. Also, the Pinellas County Council PTA/PTSA received three awards, including the Friends of the Environment Award.

• The Pinellas Association of Educational Office Professionals recently honored five students who received the organization's $500 scholarships. They are Kyle Anderson, a junior at St. Petersburg College; Taylor Ballard, a graduate of St. Petersburg Collegiate High who will be attending Florida State University; Jake Burklew, a sophomore at St. Petersburg College who is transferring to the University of South Florida; Anthony Cino, a graduate of Tarpon Springs High who will attend St. Petersburg College; and Christopher Riley, a graduate of Boca Ciega High who will attend St. Petersburg College.

• Six administrators from the Pinellas County school system received awards from the Pinellas Association of School Administrators. They are Valerie Brimm, director of strategic partnerships (Administrator of the Year); Jason Shedrick, principal of Bay Point Middle (Dennis J. Griffin Principal of the Year Award); Robyn Witcher, assistant principal Morgan Fitzgerald Middle (Richard Allen Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year Award); Karen Vargus, assistant principal of Pinellas Park Elementary (Elementary Assistant Principal of the Year); and Sue Arsenault, principal of Osceola Middle (Sherry Sisco "Celebration of Life" Award).

Elementary school lunches

Monday: Chicken nuggets with roll and dip cup, pizza crunchers, fruit and yogurt plate, turkey and cheese hoagie, sweet potato waffle fries, veggie dippers.

Tuesday: School Favorites Day. Students choose the menu.

Wednesday: Chicken drumstick with hush puppy, cheeseburger meatloaf and roll, yogurt parfait, ham and cheese croissant, mashed potatoes and gravy, sliced cucumbers.

Thursday: Beef or pork tacos, cheesy bread, chef's salad, chicken caesar wrap, marinara cup, refried fiesta beans, side salad.

Friday: Pizza, chicken and broccoli penne alfredo with bread stick, chicken caesar salad, Italian sub, spinach or collard greens, veggie dippers.
