BROOKSVILLE — The principal and assistant principal at Moton Elementary School have been temporarily removed from their positions while the Hernando County School District conducts an investigation.

District spokeswoman Karen Jordan declined to reveal the subject of the investigation or whether the administrators — principal Mark Griffith and assistant principal Anna Jensen — had been suspended or transferred to another location in the district.

School Board member Susan Duval said a district employee had told her the administrators had been transferred.

Board members Beth Narverud and Mark Johnson also said they had been told of the moves, though they did not know the two administrators' precise status.

Joyce Lewis, previously the assistant principal at Brooksville Elementary School, was filling in for Griffith on Friday morning.

Frankie Scrivens-Plummer, 45, who came to the school to drop off her grandson, said she had not been told of the move, but said she wouldn't expect to be unless it had an impact on students' education or "the integrity of the school."

She has known Griffith for decades, she said, having graduated with him from Hernando High School, and said he is patient in his dealings with parents and willing to help with jobs like directing traffic in the bus loop.
