Private schools are an option for many Pinellas families

This year for the first time, Tampa Bay area private schools used a tactic that public school systems have employed for years: They held a fair where families could get information about multiple schools and their programs in one stop. Organizers of the Nov. 1 event, held at Shorecrest Preparatory School in St. Petersburg, now plan to make it an annual tradition in their quest to attract more students.

While enrollment at private schools has generally been down nationally over the last few years, many families continue to turn to them as alternatives to traditional public schools and charter schools.

Over the next few weeks, many private schools in Pinellas County will hold open houses to welcome potential students, just as public schools have been doing. Some of them are listed below. Catholic schools are listed separately.

The Florida Department of Education keeps a complete list of private schools. It can be found at floridaschoolchoice.org/information/privateschooldirectory.
