Process to apply for PINELLAS special programs starts soon

November will be an important month for Pinellas County families who plan to apply for entrance into one of the school district's special programs, which include magnet programs, fundamental schools and career academies. Information sessions in the early and middle part of the month will be followed by discovery nights scheduled into January. The application period for the 2016-17 school year is Jan. 6-15. After that, families must take the next step by logging into the district's Student Reservation System Feb. 3-10 to see if their student has been invited to a program and confirm their acceptance. Here is a list of key events scheduled for November.

Parents and guardians can learn about the application process at the following sessions, which all begin at 6:30 p.m.:

• Nov. 3, Boca Ciega High, 924 58th St. S, Gulfport.

• Nov. 5, Countryside High, 3000 State Road 580, Clearwater.

• Nov. 9, Pinellas Park High, 6305 118th Ave. N, Largo.

Families can meet representatives from all the programs at two information fairs:

• 6-8 p.m. Nov. 12, Gibbs High, 850 34th St. S, St. Petersburg.

• 9 a.m.-noon Nov. 14, Pinellas Park High, 6305 118th Ave. N, Largo.

The Times will publish information on discovery nights closer to their scheduled dates. For more information on the application process, visit pcsb.org and click on "Discovery Nights" in the left column, or call the student assignment office at (727) 588-6210.
