Required immunizations/vaccinations for Hernando County schools

Up-to-date immunizations are required for all new students as follows:

Pre-K

Measles vaccine (first dose, preferably MMR); hepatitis B series (three doses); Dtap (four or five doses required); polio (three or four doses required); Hib (variable, depends on type of vaccine and child's age); varicella vaccine or documentation of history of chicken pox.

Grades K-5

Measles vaccine (second dose, preferably MMR); hepatitis B series (three doses); Dtap (four or five doses required); polio (three or four doses required); varicella vaccine or documentation of past chicken pox (grades K-1 require two doses of varicella).

Grade 6

Measles vaccine (second dose, preferably MMR); Dtap (four or five doses required); polio (three or four doses required); hepatitis B (three doses).

Grades 7-12

Measles vaccine (second dose, preferably MMR); Dtap (four or five doses); polio (three or four doses); hepatitis B series (three doses); Tdap (tetanus/pertussis) booster (one dose).

The Hernando County Health Department offers immunizations and school physicals at its offices at 300 S Main St., Brooksville, and 7465 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. To make an appointment, call (352) 540-6800.
