Six elementary schools to have extended hours

Six elementaries will have longer hours this year

Just a reminder for parents gearing up for the first day of school Monday: Six elementary schools in the Pinellas County School District will have extended hours this year. Hours at Fairmount Park, High Point and Woodlawn elementaries will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., with a 2:30 p.m. dismissal on early release Wednesdays. At Campbell Park, Lakewood and Melrose elementaries, hours will be 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., with a 3 p.m. dismissal on Wednesdays.

All of the schools were on the state's 100 lowest-performing schools list and will be required to provide an extra hour of reading instruction every day. The Pinellas County School Board approved the new hours for Fairmount Park, High Point and Woodlawn in June. It is expected to approve the new hours for Campbell Park, Lakewood and Melrose at Tuesday's meeting.
