Springstead High School social studies teacher John Imhof has been named 2014 Hernando County Teacher of the Year.
Imhof, in his seventh year with the district, was chosen from 23 school-level nominees from across the county.
The announcement came during a ceremony Saturday night at Silverthorn Country Club, south of Brooksville. It was the 25th anniversary of the honor.
Imhof, 37, is an 11th-grade social studies instructor at Springstead, teaching U.S. history, dual enrollment U.S. History I and II and Advanced Placement U.S. history.
He is well known for consistently delivering high scores on Advanced Placement tests.
In the past six years, 83 percent of his students have passed the AP U.S. history exam; nearly half of his students made the top score during the past three years, meriting congratulatory letters from Gov. Rick Scott.
Imhof also plays an instrumental role in helping to develop Springstead's AP program as the AP teacher development coordinator.
"He ... has been singled out by principals from other schools as the teacher they want their teachers to emulate," according to a recommendation letter from Springstead's Teacher of the Year committee.
