St. Petersburg High honors Vyrle Davis

ST. PETERSBURG — A plaque dedicating the Vyrle Davis Media Building at St. Petersburg High School was unveiled Friday.

Davis served as the school's principal from 1973 until 1983 and was the first black area superintendent in the United States.

Said Celeste Brown, one of his daughters: "Hopefully, as you walk the halls, you'll hear the echoing of the taps he wore on the heels of his shoes, you will see the easy smile, you will hear his quick wit, and you'll hear the tough love that he issued resonating throughout these halls."
