Schools in Pinellas, Hillsborough and Hernando counties will be closed Thursday and Friday due to Hurricane Irma.

The Pasco County school district will be open Thursday, but will be closed Friday because shelters will open in the morning. All sports and extracurricular activities scheduled for Friday and over the weekend have also been canceled.

In Hernando, at least three schools will serve as shelters for the influx of people seeking shelter from more southern counties.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
