School named AVID Schoolwide Site of Distinction

Marshall Middle School was formally recognized as an AVID Schoolwide Site of Distinction by the Eastern Division of AVID in April. The middle school has long been an AVID, or Advancement Via Individual Determination, Demonstration site.

ROBINSON HIGH SCHOOL

Teacher receives award from governor

Robinson High School teacher Jeff Kaloostian was one of eight educators to receive a Shine Award from Gov. Rick Scott in a Florida Cabinet meeting. Kaloostian served in the military for 28 years and for 11 years has taught aerospace, as the only high school aerospace teacher in Hillsborough County.

ACADEMY PREP

School celebrates middle and high school graduations

Twenty-two Academy Prep eighth grade students are graduating this year to attend college preparatory school both local, such as Academy of the Holy Names and Berkeley Preparatory School as well as national, like Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire and Woodberry Forest School in Virginia. High school seniors are also graduating to attend schools like Loyola University New Orleans and Loyola University Chicago, with a graduation rate of 97 percent.

School hosts College Signing Day

Armwood High School hosted its own College Signing Day, an event celebrated by schools nationally, on Tuesday. The event takes inspiration from college signing days where student athletes declare their choice of college, but instead celebrates all students who intend on going to college.

Gala raises funds for kids to attend science camps

The Museum of Science and Industry hosted a Children's Gala on Sunday to raise funds for scholarships for underprivileged kids to attend the museum's science camps. Kids were provided piggy banks by PNC Bank to collect donations in, with this year's total ultimately coming in at $4,007.06.
