TAMPA — Two new members and one returning member were sworn in at Tuesday's meeting of the Hillsborough County School Board.

Newly elected members Melissa Snively and Sally Harris replaced Stacy White, who was elected to the Hillsborough County Commission, and Candy Olson, who stepped down after serving for two decades. April Griffin was re-elected and begins her third term.

The seven-member board unanimously elected Susan Valdes as its new chairwoman and Doretha Edgecomb as vice chairwoman.

Valdes noted this is the first-ever all-female board. "Girl power," she said.
