New Pinellas schools superintendent plans school visits on first day

Mike Grego, the new superintendent of Pinellas County Schools, plans to get right to work today, his first official day in the district.

He's meeting with principals at Belleair Elementary in Clearwater and Mildred Helms Elementary in Largo.

The School Board put its unanimous stamp of approval on Grego's contract Tuesday, under which he will receive a base salary of $240,000 a year.

Board members also gave final approval to a contract with the teachers union, which will give teachers a small raise and end early release Wednesday in the 2013-14 school year.
