Pasco County school test schedules

These tests come around each year like clockwork. Be sure not to schedule your vacations when your kids are scheduled to take these annual exams.

• FCAT retakes (reading and math, exit-level only): Oct. 12-16 or Oct. 19-23.

• FCAT writing: Feb. 9-11 for grades 4, 8 and 10.

• FCAT: March 9-19. Includes reading and mathematics for grades 3-10; science for grades 5, 8 and 11; reading and mathematics for new students, and retakes for grades 11 to adult.

• ACT: Sept. 12, Oct. 24, Dec. 12, Feb. 6, April 10 and June 12. (Visit actstudent.org/regist/dates.html for registration information.)

• SAT: Oct. 10, Nov. 7, Dec. 5, Jan. 23, March 13, May 1 and June 5. (Visit collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/calenfees.html for registration information.)

    TAMPA — Buoyed by the award of an additional $3 million in state funding, Eckerd Kids plans to hire more social workers to ease the strain on Hillsborough County's overburdened child welfare system.

    The child welfare system in Hillsborough County will get an additional $3 million in funding for the upcoming fiscal  year beginning July 1, according to Eckerd Kids, the agency contracted to run the system by the state.
