Pinellas School Board okays lower tax rate
The Pinellas County School Board voted unanimously to approve its tentative $1.3 billion budget. The proposed tax rate, $8.06 per $1,000 of taxable value, is lower than last year. But, with an increase in property values, taxpayers could see their bill go up slightly. Someone living in a $200,000 home with a $25,000 homestead exemption would pay about $1,410. School taxes aren't subject to the full $50,000 in the state's homestead exemption. Final budget approval will come in September.
