Pinellas Parents to learn about supporting education of students
Parent University, a free event that supports the education of students in grades K-12, will be held from 8 a.m.-noon Oct. 24 at Osceola Fundamental High School, 9751 98th St., Seminole. The Pinellas County School District's Office of Strategic Partnerships is working with the United Way Suncoast and the Alliance for Public Schools to offer a variety of workshops at the event. The sessions will focus on academic and support programs in the Pinellas system, strategies families can use to help every child succeed, and ways to advocate for the resources necessary for public schools. Speaker to focus on 'black male learners'
The public is invited to a special program, "The Keys For Empowering Black Male Learners — Motivating Black Male Learners to Achieve in School and in Life," at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at John Hopkins Middle School, 701 16th St. S, St. Petersburg. The featured speaker will be Baruti Kafele, a former teacher of the year in Essex County, N.J., who went on to transform four urban New Jersey schools as a middle and high school principal. Today as an award-winning speaker and consultant, he talks about the "attitude gap," which he calls "the gap between those students who have the will to strive for academic excellence and those who do not." Color Run to benefit Belcher Elementary
The PTA at Belcher Elementary School will host the second annual Belcher Color Run on Saturday. Money raised will help the PTA fund programs, activities and other educational opportunities for Belcher Elementary students. The event will be held from 9 a.m.-noon at the school, 1839 N Belcher Road, Clearwater. The cost to participate is $15 for Belcher students and staff and $25 dollars for those registering on the day of the event. Monday: Professional Development Day. No school for students.
Tuesday: Sloppy joe on a bun, corn dog, farmer's salad, chicken caesar wrap, baked beans, romaine side salad.
Wednesday: Popcorn chicken, mac and cheese, fruit and yogurt plate, ham and cheese croissant, broccoli, sliced cucumbers.
Thursday: BBQ pork bowl with roll, pork bowl with roll, grilled cheese sandwich, chicken caesar salad, Italian sub, tomato soup, mixed or tossed salad.
Friday: Pizza, ocean treasure nuggets, chicken popper salad, school favorite sandwich, corn, veggie dippers.
