Contest to promote antipoverty programs

Save the Children and the American Federation of Teachers are hosting a Valentine's Day art contest for students around the country. Students in grades K-12 are invited to create card designs based on this year's theme, "A Generation United," which will use the heart image as a symbol for unity, responsibility and loyalty. Submissions are due by Dec. 1 and are made through each student's school.

Semifinalists' designs will be posted online in mid December, and winners will be chosen based on votes. The five winning designs will be printed on Valentine's Day cards and offered as a gift with donation. Proceeds benefit Save the Children's antipoverty programs. Winners also receive a $500 savings bond and the student whose design has the most votes will have the opportunity to meet actress and Save the Children ambassador Julianne Moore in January. For more information, contact Brendan Duke at (202) 640-6613 or e-mail bduke@savechildren.org.
