Sunlake High math teacher charged with DUI

TAMPA — A Pasco County high school teacher was arrested late Saturday by Hillsborough County deputies on a charge of driving under the influence.

Nathan Philip Howe, 30, of Wesley Chapel, was jailed overnight after refusing to take a blood-alcohol content breath test and released on $500 bail Sunday morning.

A Sunlake High School math teacher, Howe could face sanctions from the Pasco County school district, based on the specifics of his case. Generally, the district allows employees to return to work if they are arrested on their first DUI, employee relations director Kevin Shibley said. If the offense included more serious conditions, such as injury or drugs, or if it is one of multiple arrests, the district might take further action, Shibley said.

The district reports all employee arrests to the state Department of Education professional practices division.
