Emergency water main repair clogs Indian Rocks Road

Published April 2, 2015

What is happening on Indian Rocks Road in Belleair near Woodlawn Avenue? Looks like a huge project of some sort.

This is an emergency water main repair and pipe replacement with related construction that requires the closing of Indian Rocks Road from Roebling Road N to Woodlawn Avenue. Both Roebling Road N and Roebling Road S are closed with access permitted for local traffic only. There will be delays and plenty of traffic congestion throughout the duration of the project, which is expected to last until about April 10. The suggested detours are Woodlawn Avenue and Overbrook Drive.

Now that the Grand Prix is over with, when will all the road closures and concrete barricades downtown be gone? We can't wait for things to get back to normal.

Streets that have been closed for last weekend's race (some since February) to make way for the nearly 2-mile track along the waterfront began to reopen this week and should all be restored to regular use by around April 10. This includes Bayshore Drive SE from First Avenue S to Fifth Avenue S.

Also, another welcome sign of downtown life returning to normal — the Saturday Morning Market, which did not open during the race, will be back Saturday, at the Al Lang parking lot.

Barricade watch

Now that the Interstate 275 road widening project between downtown Tampa and State Road 60 has reached the point to allow a shift for southbound traffic flow, motorists are now able to use three of four new lanes on southbound I-275 from the Hillsborough River (near downtown/Ashley Drive) to west of West Shore Boulevard.

Here are a few tips from the state Department of Transportation to help navigate the new traffic configuration:

• The southbound I-275 exit ramp to West Shore Boulevard (Exit 40A) will be reopened.

• All exit and entrance ramps are on the right side, with traffic entering and exiting from the right lane.

•Three new exits are now in close succession:

Exit 41B to Himes Avenue; then

Exit 41A to Dale Mabry Highway; then

Exit 40B to Lois Avenue.
