TAMPA — Hillsborough County health officials have issued an advisory after high levels of bacteria were found in the water off Cypress Point Park.
A routine test of water samples taken Monday showed levels of enterococci bacteria above the threshold of what the Environmental Protection Agency considers safe. The bacteria come from fecal pollution from stormwater runoff and animal and human sewage.
Exposure to the bacteria can cause disease, infections and rashes.
The water will be retested on Sept. 30, officials said. The advisory will be lifted when bacteria levels return to the safe range.
