TAMPA — Health officials have issued an advisory warning people to avoid the waters of two Tampa beaches.
Routine tests on water samples from Davis Island and Picnic Island beaches this week showed high levels of enterococci bacteria, according to the Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County. The bacteria is an indication of fecal pollution, which comes from stormwater runoff, animals and human sewage. Exposure to the bacteria can cause disease, infections or rashes.
The beaches will be re-sampled on Monday.
