Boil water alert affecting part of South Tampa lifted

TAMPA — A boil-water alert for customers in the W Ballast Point area of South Tampa was lifted Friday night after tests found the drinking water safe.

Customers who were affected since Thursday by the warning are those between S Himes Avenue on the west, W Ballast Point Boulevard on the north, Hillsborough Bay on the east and MacDill Air Force Base on the south. The base itself was not included in the alert.

"Additional water quality samples confirm that water is safe to consume," the city said in a statement issued late Friday.

But it asked that any resident living inside those boundaries with a private well call the city's Utilities Call Center so additional samples could be taken.

Tampa officials said residents can sign up for emergency alerts that include warnings to boil water at tampagov.net/AlertTampa.
