Health advisory lifted for E.G. Simmons Park Beach in Ruskin

RUSKIN — A health advisory issued last week for E.G. Simmons Park Beach has been lifted after water samples showed reduced levels of bacteria.

The Hillsborough County Health Department issued the warning on Dec. 16 after water samples showed higher-than-normal levels of enterococci bacteria that could present a health risk. Follow up tests showed the bacteria level has fallen into the acceptable range, the department announced Tuesday.

Enterococci bacteria is typically found in the intestinal tracks in humans and animals. The presence of this kind of bacteria usually indicates fecal pollution from stormwater runoff, animals and human sewage.
