Oldsmar lifts notice to boil water after testing finds no contamination

OLDSMAR — City officials lifted a boil water notice in Oldsmar Tuesday night that was put in effect after a leak was discovered in a city pipe.

A lab analysis of multiple water samples taken after the 8-inch pipe was fixed showed no contamination to the water supply, officials said.

Homes and businesses in the city of 14,000 were without a consistent source of water for more than 36 hours after the pipe began leaking early Saturday morning. A dirt biker finally found the broken pipe Sunday afternoon in a drainage ditch north of Tampa Road, following a massive search by public works employees.

The leak was quickly fixed, but residents were told to continue to boil water until the supply could be examined.
