A new perch for the ospreys

A pair of ospreys have a new nesting platform in Dunedin, thanks to the Clearwater Audubon Society and a Progress Energy Foundation grant. The birds, dubbed "Victor" and "Victoria" by their human neighbors, aren't saying much but they appear pleased that their rickety old nesting platform has been replaced. Barbara Walker, who keeps an eye on birds of prey for the Audubon's Clearwater chapter, is overseeing the replacement of the platform as well as two others, one in Oldsmar and one near Bay Vista Elementary School in St. Petersburg that is monitored by the schools art students. They are the first three nesting platforms to be replaced in the Tampa Bay area. Walker asks residents who know of other osprey nesting platforms that are falling apart to call the Clearwater Audubon at (727) 442-9140.
