The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating a viral video that shows a shark being dragged behind a boat on a rope as men laugh each time its body slams the water.
While Facebook users and internet sleuths have identified who they believe to be in the video — and that it was taken in Tampa Bay — FWC hasn't confirmed details of what happened yet.
In fact, they're not even positive the video, however cringe-worthy, is a crime.
"It is too early to speculate as to what, if any, violations took place in this incident," spokesman Robert Klepper said in a statement.
It's also unclear when the video was filmed, but FWC said it first got reports of it on Monday.
One user's popular post read, "Please share with all your friends and people in the fishing industry to get this guy off our waters. He has a total lack of respect for mother nature."
FWC said in its statement it is taking the investigation "very seriously" and working to identify those involved.
