Rescuers searching for injured bald eagle in Clearwater

CLEARWATER — An injured bald eagle was spotted near U.S. 19 Monday morning.

A woman called Clearwater Audubon Society's Barb Walker and said the bird was struggling in the water near the Imperial Cove condos, just north of Nursery Road. But by the time a rescuer arrived, the bird was gone.

"We think that it has a problem with its tail which is preventing it from getting a lift," Walker said. "He won't be able to hunt."

The bird is young, probably 2 years old. Unlike older bald eagles, which have white heads and tails, young eagles are all brown.

Walker asks anyone who sees the bird to call (727) 798-2385.
