Weekend warriors crowded into St. Petersburg's Spa Beach to test their mettle in the America II Extreme Mud Wars on Saturday. With thunderstorms threatening the competition, 48 creatively named teams — consider Brown-Stained Panty Snatchers and Gawky Green Giraffes — jousted, tugged, bumped, tackled, and raced each other in events ranging from dodge ball to tug of war to a mud-style sumo wrestling match. The event, which continues at 11 a.m. Sunday, is free to the public.
