CLEARWATER — A fire at a storage facility set off several explosions north of downtown Clearwater early Sunday morning, authorities said.
Clearwater Fire and Rescue was called to the blaze at a six-unit storage building at 503 N Garden Ave. just before 2 a.m.
As firefighters arrived, they saw several explosions within the structure from what they said were probably propane tanks.
The fire destroyed the building and damaged a nearby building as well, according to the fire department. It took about 30 minutes for the 35 firefighters who responded to get the fire under control.
Nobody was injured in the incident, fire officials said. The cause was under investigation.
