Gee headed to landslide win in Hillsborough sheriff's race

TAMPA — Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee was on patrol Tuesday night when it became obvious he was going to be re-elected.

Gee won another term in a landslide, and it was never really in question. His only opponent was a write-in candidate who goes by "Grumpy Bob."

"It's a good feeling," said Gee, 53. "It's hard to believe eight years have gone by. But I feel good about it. I'm really excited to get going again."

Gee said he plans to continue honing the agency's technology and techniques to lower crime rates. He also wants to build on improvements in hiring, which he said has helped the agency become stronger over the past five or six years.

Gee, who has worked for the agency since he was 20, was first elected in 2004. In 2008, he ran unopposed. This will be his third term.
