DADE CITY — More lodging could be built at the Grove at Wesley Chapel. The county's top planners Thursday gave permission for developers to build a 110-room hotel at the center at Oakley Boulevard off Interstate 75.

Developers asked to include 21.5 acres they bought in bits and pieces for the project, which is so large that it must undergo extra scrutiny from officials.

To offset the impact of the possible hotel, developers plan to reduce the number of already approved movie theater seats from 3,300 to 2,738, attorney Sue Murphy said.

Developers also got permission to increase retail space from 736,492 to 761,295 square feet.

Murphy declined to name the hotel, saying no contract had been signed.

The area already has a Comfort Inn and a Holiday Inn Express.

The Grove, which opened in 2007, includes Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Dick's Sporting Goods, Bed Bath & Beyond, Ulta, Best Buy and T.J. Maxx.

In other news, county officials gave developers permission to build another 859 homes on 509 acres in the Watergrass development. The neighborhood is about a quarter-mile east of Curley Road, south of Overpass Road.
