LongHorn Steakhouse, which was planned for the Wiregrass area but got shelved during the recession, might be on again.
Pasco County records show the chain, which is owned by Darden Restaurants, has submitted plans to open a 6,242-square-foot restaurant on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard on a vacant lot at the northernmost point of the Shops at Wiregrass property. A pre-application meeting between the developer and staff is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Monday.
"This project was discussed two years ago but then died," developers wrote on the application form. "It has come back to life and we need to update our information."
LongHorn was founded in Atlanta in 1981. By 1990, the restaurant had spread throughout the East, Midwest and Southwest United States and Puerto Rico. In 2007, the restaurant, now called LongHorn Steakhouse, was purchased by Darden Restaurants, which also owns Olive Garden and Red Lobster. It specializes in fresh-grilled steak, chicken and seafood, according to the website.
