BRANDON — Westfield Brandon owners want a rezoning change from the county to add 180,000 square feet of development to the mall's site plan.
If approved, future expansion could include retail stores, offices or hotels and be located on vacant parcels or attached to the mall, according to documents filed with Hillsborough County.
Expansion could also mean good news for traffic.
Owners of the mall have been working with the county on construction plans for the Gornto Lake Road extension, which will connect Gornto Lake Road from Town Center Boulevard to State Road 60, the documents said.
Mall expansion plans would include the addition of a turning lane where Gornto Lake Road intersects with Town Center Boulevard.
After a hearing in January, the county's land use officer recommended approving the request.
The issue will go to the Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday for final review. The meeting will start at 9 a.m. and be held at the County Center, located at 601 E Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa.
