TAMPA — An argument Wednesday night at a Busch Boulevard Marathon gas station turned into a bloody shooting, according to Tampa police.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. at 4990 E Busch Blvd. Sgt. Christopher Ugles said the dispute appeared to have been over a woman.
Three or four men stopped for gas for their Pontiac Grand Prix, and spotted a man on foot at the store that one of them knew, Ugles said.
The two men exchanged words, got into an argument and it quickly became heated.
The man they had confronted pulled a gun and fired, wounding one of the other men in the group, Ugles said.
The wounded man was taken to Tampa General Hospital in stable but critical condition, he said. The shooter ran away.
The men's bluish-gray late model Pontiac Grand Prix remained parked at pump No. 2, the scene of the showdown, as police worked the scene.
Police have an idea who the shooter is, and were actively searching for him late Wednesday.
No one else was hurt, and police have videotape of the gunman and witnesses. "So we're confident that we're going to catch our shooter," Ugles said. "It's just a matter of when."
