Harry Potter-themed Braille Challenge shows kids magic of braille

 
Sporting Harry Potter glasses Jacque Williams, 7, uses a brail machine to type words that will be used in a sentence. Jacque and about 50 other children and teens took part in the Brail Challenge which had a Harry Potter theme during the West and Central Florida Regional Brail Challenge. The Braille Challengea is a national program of the Braille Institute ̈ hosted by regional schools and agencies that serve blind and visually impaired children. It is the only national braille literacy competition of its kind in the country, and is specifically designed to challenge and reward blind students for their study of braille, which is essential to their future academic and employment success. This unique competition is a national program of Braille Institute of America, Inc., and serves to encourage blind children of all ages to fine-tune their Braille skills, which are essential to their success in the sighted world. Florida Instructional Materials Center for the Visually Impaired, the Lions Eye Institute Foundation, and Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind are the sponsors of this regional competition. The leading scorers from the event held today 3/6/15 will move on to the National Brail Challenge
