For the second year, the University of South Florida and Pinellas County are getting federal grants to help residents shop for coverage on the Affordable Care Act marketplace.

Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell on Monday announced an estimated $6.8 million in "navigator" grants to three Florida organizations.

Florida Covering Kids & Families, a USF-based organization, will get up to $5.4 million, more than the $4.2 million award it received last year. Pinellas County will get up to $533,156. The third organization, Epilepsy Foundation of Florida, will get an estimated $871,275.

Last year, eight organizations received $7.8 million in federal funds.

In total, HHS announced $60 million in navigator grant awards to 90 organizations in federally facilitated and state partnership marketplaces, often called exchanges.

"In-person assisters have an impact on the lives of so many Floridians, helping individuals and families access quality, affordable health coverage," Burwell said. "We are committed to helping Floridians get covered and stay covered with in-person assistance in their own communities."
