State health officials have suspended the license of a registered nurse who was involved in a hepatitis C outbreak at a holistic medical clinic in Brandon last year. According to the May 7 order, investigators concluded that Brandy Elizabeth Medeiros, of Seminole, failed "to meet minimal standards of acceptable and prevailing nursing practice" while administering intravenous therapies, including chelation therapy, to patients at Wellness Works, at 1209 Lakeside Drive. Eight patients tested positive for hepatitis C, a contagious liver disease that can cause serious damage. The state's investigation found, among other things, that Medeiros reused needles and vials for multiple patients. She was fired from her position in December by clinic director Dr. Carol Roberts.
