Hillsborough Children's Board extends director search

TAMPA — A search firm will have another 30 days to find more candidates for executive director of the Children's Board of Hillsborough County after an initial search narrowed hundreds of applicants down to five.

At a meeting Wednesday, the board agreed to extend the search in an effort to find more highly qualified applicants.

Search consultant Renee Narloch said she believes there may be some candidates who initially declined to apply but still have interest, as well as others the first search missed. The goal is to find five or six more candidates and conduct interviews in April.

The board is filling the vacancy created when Luanne Panacek resigned last year amid questions about how the agency was handling contracts, spending money and dealing with employees. Former Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio is serving as interim director.
